Situated in 7 forested acres on the eastern slope of Catoctin Mountain in Frederick County, MD, Catoctin Mountain Botanicals has been growing ginseng in the woods using organic methods since 1995. Currently American Ginseng (Panax Quinquefolium) is being cultivated in raised beds comprising 10,000 sq. ft. and about 30,000 sq. ft is being grown in wild simulated stands.

The Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology, Inc. is a private, non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization affiliated with the University of Maryland. Founded in 1999, the Center brings together diverse interests from the agricultural, forestry, and environmental communities for the purpose of retaining Maryland’s working landscapes and the industries they support while protecting and improving the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.
