Accokeek Foundation Ecosystem Farm , Accokeek , MD

The Ecosystem Farm is an example of farming for the future. Here, the concepts of land stewardship and the production of high-value vegetable crops are of equal importance. The Ecosystem Farm provides a distinctive educational experience about the issues of food, land use and environmental protection. A guided tour of the Ecosystem Farm is offered at 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Catoctin Mountain Botanicals , Jefferson , MD

Situated in 7 forested acres on the eastern slope of Catoctin Mountain in Frederick County, MD, Catoctin Mountain Botanicals has been growing ginseng in the woods using organic methods since 1995. Currently American Ginseng (Panax Quinquefolium) is being cultivated in raised beds comprising 10,000 sq. ft. and about 30,000 sq. ft is being grown in wild simulated stands.

The Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology, Inc. is a private, non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization affiliated with the University of Maryland. Founded in 1999, the Center brings together diverse interests from the agricultural, forestry, and environmental communities for the purpose of retaining Maryland’s working landscapes and the industries they support while protecting and improving the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. The Center works toward achieving its diverse mission through a three-pronged approach of scientific research, policy analysis, and outreach and education efforts.

Community Supported Agriculture Farm on 25 Acres of woods and farmland at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain. We grow over 80 varieties of Certified Organic Vegetables as well as Hay.
